Friday Finds (1)

F I N A L L Y.

I remember to do this dang post lmao. I have no idea why I tend to forget about it all the time when I’m constantly bookmarking either blog posts to read later, come back to later or ones I just find interesting. I thought to create this weekly feature to share some of the blog posts I’ve found during the week!

I know with the whole world-on-lock-down going on a lot of us are having to cancel and miss out on things we’ve been looking forward to like vacations and celebrations. A few of my friends had to cancel their weddings and we had to cancel Tums first birthday celebration (though I  think I’m going to do a Facebook Live of it, not sure yet) as well as my birthday celebration to Vegas (after not being back there in 9 years, sigh).

Despite that I’ve actually been really into looking at travel blogs and travel pinterest accounts as inspo for where I want to jet off to next… and dream about going on vacation lol.

I’d like to post more mental health blog posts but I just never know what to say sometimes lol, it’s so weird. Like I just go blank!

What are some links you’ve bookmarked this week? How are you all handling this quarantine?

Two Year WordPress Anniversary!

img_8203

I can’t believe I’ve had Places + Peonies for two years now!

I definitely haven’t posted as many blog posts as I wished I had when I started this blog and obviously my Instagram feed isn’t what I had imagined either. I think I put too much pressure on myself to have  the perfect feed which I’m sure many of us are guilty of the same expectation.

I started this blog as a place to talk about mental health, gaming, traveling and to just  be myself. To talk about the things I couldn’t talk about on hazearella anymore cause it turned into this beauty/candle blog. And I told myself I wouldn’t try to be perfect here. Yet, here I am. Expecting exactly that!

In the last two years though I have opened up about things I never really got the chance to talk about especially regarding my past and things I still need to face and come to terms with. In the last two years I’ve also made this into a DOT COM blog and sort of decided on a slightly new direction for it.

It’s hard to not incorporate my mom stuff here sometimes just because I have a different blog for that; but also because I AM a stay at home mom so most of the things I want to talk about on a day to day basis are about motherhood or just about the baby. I try to slip in a post here and there, just so she has some sort of something here but I try not to do it too often.

So what do I hope to accomplish in the next year or so here?

Fuck The Flu;

This week has been awful.

2020-03-09 18.27.36-1

Bubba got the flu last Saturday and he passed it to Tums who then passed it to me. Bubba seemed to get over it the quickest at like 2 days. Tums took about maybe 3 days and I’m  still sick a week later. I’m starting to feel a little more like myself every day; minus the dizziness and not being very hungry.

But at least the fevers for me only lasted about 2 days. Every time I ate I felt like throwing up and the dizziness came around day 4 and still hasn’t left. It’s not like super extreme or anything but enough to be annoying. I’ve been trying to get as much rest and sleep as I can (something that’s hard to do with a baby who can’t self soothe yet) and forcing myself to eat. I’m awful when it comes to liquids mainly because I HATE water but I’ve been trying to drink juice and eat more soup, at least.

Getting the flu always feels like you don’t remember what feeling  well feels like lmao, it’s so weird. And it definitely puts you in the I’ll-be-better-with-my-health plea to the universe.

So, here’s how I plan to be better at being healthy;

Middle Grade March 2020

I stumbled on this challenge while watching an OwlcrateJR YouTube video for the month of March where they talked about the middle grade titles they hoped to read in March and I thought it was an awesome idea to join in. My TBR is overflowing with middle grade titles I have  yet to get around to!

Some of the titles will be from OwlcrateJR, and others will be ones that I’ve been  meaning to get around to. I don’t exactly hope to read  all of these titles, but at least half would be ideal!

The Midnight Hour, The Twelve and The Unmapped Chronicles are OwlcrateJR titles I really want to get around to. Finding Serendipity has been sitting on my TBR for the last 5 years, so I think it’s about time to read it lol! And The Dreadful Tale or Prosper Redding sounds so interesting but I heard it’s kinda creepy!

A few Kindle reads I hope to get to; Breadcrumbs is a re-read but it’s one of my favs!

On Audible I’m aiming for The Land of Stories and An Enchantment of Ravens is one I really wanna get to! Does anyone else worry they’ll get lost while listening to an audiobook? I always worry about that but I really wanna get some of my Audible TBR done and I figured this would be the perfect chance to do just that!

Are you participating in Middle Grade March? What are some titles you hope to tackle?

Recap 2020; Feb

I feel like Feb might had been longer than Jan this year. I have no idea why. But I made a lot of changes and jumped into a lot of things in Feb that I’m pretty surprised at myself of. I’m still trying to remember who I am as a person (damn you postpartum depression) and trying to re-find my footing and balance. Of course with a damn near one year old (WHERE DID THE YEAR GO) it’s a little more challenging than I’d like.

3 Ways I keep Calm

3 Ways I keep Calm

I previously wrote about the 5 Daily Things I Do As Self Care; self care is SUCH a big deal to me and it’s something I’m constantly working on. It’s something I try to make sure I make time for in my every day life.

Keeping calm isn’t something I’m very good at. I stress out super easy. The more I stress out the worst my anxiety gets and it’s a never ending cycle. So there are certain things I keep around to help me/remind me to chill out.

5 Daily Things I Do As Self Care

5 Daily Things I Do As Self Care

One thing you’ll learn about me is that I’m BIG on self care. I’m a creature of routine, ritual and habit and absolutely nothing gets in the way of my daily routines.

Even back when Disneyland and Vegas were frequent vacation destinations I had a routine!

Every day I have a clear set of things I have to do when I wake up and right before I go to bed. Sure, some of these might be OCD driven but whatever, they help me get ready and help me end the day. Like signals for my body on what time of the day it is.

My Top 5 Disney World Sit Down Restaurants

My Top 5 Disney World Sit Down Restaurants

If you’ve ever been to Walt Disney World then you’d know how hard it is to narrow it down to just five places; however I can say with confidence that in the years I lived and worked there that these were my frequent 5 any chance I got for time to myself!

 Ohana

Located in The Polynesian Resort right by Magic Kingdom!

There’s an option for brunch or dinner and after having both I’d say my favorite is still dinner. This is one of my top 3 favorite places at Disney World to eat, ever! I know that sounds so  basic since a ton of people love this place too but I’ll tell you why I keep coming back.

Their Pineapple Coconut Bread.

I’m not kidding. They use to sell it downstairs at Captain Cooks for their sandwiches and stuff but they stopped for some reason!

This starter bread is the stuff that bread dreams are made of. And I don’t even like bread like that! But also their Pot Stickers and Salad are some of my favs.

The way Ohana works is that you get a huge heaping serving of starters. Pot Stickers, Salad, Noodles and I believe Chicken Wings as well. Then Cast Members come around with skewers of different types of meats and Shrimp and you select what you want and it’s like an all you can eat but you don’t leave your table sort of deal.

It’s good, I freakin love it.

Things I learned in 2019

It’s crazy how this year is coming to a close; I feel like time just passes faster the older you get. And even a slight bit faster when you have kids. I swear Tums was just born 4 months ago and not 9.

2019 was one of the worst years I’ve had in a very very long time. Dare I say it was just as bad if not worse than 2014? Cause it sure as hell felt like it — not to mention I also had to get on meds this year. That’s how rough it was.
